You Asked, We Answered!
ARE YOU DOG-FRIENDLY?
Of course! It is half the reason we exist! Our life goals are: 1. Pet dogs 2. Drink beer 3. Repeat (1 and 2 can be in any order, or simultaneously is the best!) We are very small though, so please be considerate of drinking adults and aware of how your furry friend handles small spaces with strangers and/or strange dogs! If you pups are unruly, aggressive, loud, or present a hindrance/danger to other guests we will have to ask you to remove them and we would rather not have to do that.
ARE YOU KID-FRIENDLY?
We are indeed! Though we are very small so please be considerate of drinking adults. Also, we do not have much to offer to minors aside from water and peanuts. Minors are welcome to entertain themselves at Der Hinterhof next to us. They have a giant outdoor/indoor chalkboard, ping-pong, foosball, table-games, TV, etc. They also serve food and non-alcoholic beverages.
DO YOU SERVE FOOD?
NO. Just some peanuts for snacking. Though there is a restaurant next to us, so bring your own!
DO YOU HAVE WINE, CIDER, LIQUOR, NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES?
We only serve beer and very occasionally a cider, though not consistently. We also have tap water.
DO YOU MAKE GLUTEN-FREE BEER?
NO. We currently do not produce any gluten-free brews, but we may look into it in the future!
WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU??!! HOW THE HECK DO WE FIND YOU??!!
Our location is a bit awkward! Our address is 321 9th Street. Right next to the entrance to Waterfront Park's beach parking. Our bar is inside the basement of our building. Directional signage on the building is awkward. Partially due to restrictions via the city codes and also because our building is awkwardly repurposed from its origins as Leavenworth's "Cascade Sanitarium" in the 1920's AND because we are in the basement level. The main entrance is the vestibule in the alley on the downtown-side of the building. Look for the blue/yellow signs on the side of the building with arrows pointing to the vestibule right next to them. We can also be accessed through Der Hinterhof's beer garden from the parking lot in back or the stairs from the sidewalk. From the beer garden go into the hallway and we are on the right.
I HEARD/READ YOUR BAR WAS SMALL, BUT HOW SMALL?
When we say our bar is tiny we mean it! But it just makes for a more entertaining and intimate atmosphere, where you are highly likely to meet new people, make new friends and have great conversations! The bar seats 6-7 and there is a mini-bar behind it that seats/stands another 5-6. Don't be shy! Squeeze on in and have fun with us, though if you are claustrophobic we understand. Perhaps you can catch us at a less busy time. …..and yes, if you have seen photos of our tasting room, pictures can be deceiving, sometimes the photos make it look bigger than it is!
AT LEAST YOU HAVE THE GIANT BEER GARDEN/PATIO?
We wish! We are NOT the beer garden patio! We are attached to it, so come inside the hallway off the patio. The beer garden belongs to the neighboring restaurant Der Hinterhof.
CAN I TAKE BEER OUTSIDE TO SIT IN THE BEER GARDEN/PATIO?
We wish! We CANNOT serve our beer to the patio! It is a separate business (Der Hinterhof) with a separate alcohol license. State Liquor Laws do NOT allow for multiple licenses sharing a common serving space. Write your Congressman! Our license only covers the inside of our tasting room and NOT the patio. We do sell kegs to Der Hinterhof, so don't let our beer being on their taps confuse you about who is the brewery!
CAN WE DRINK IN THE HALLWAY BY YOUR TASTING ROOM?
NO. The hallway is a neutral, public, unlicensed zone allowing access to Doghaus Brewery and Der Hinterhof restaurant/bar, as well as access to the restrooms and hotel elevator. Our license only covers the inside of our tasting room and NOT the hallway!
IS THERE ANYWAY I CAN TAKE BEER OUT OF YOUR BAR?
The only way you can take our beer out of our tasting room is via a growler fill, which is legally a closed container. And you won't be able to drink your growler in Der Hinterhof's beer garden as they will confiscate it. You aren't allowed to serve yourself alcohol at a licensed establishment, that's another State Liquor Law.
CAN I DRINK MY GROWLERS/BOTTLES ETC. IN THE STREET?
We wish! Sadly, Leavenworth is not quite hip enough yet to allow public alcohol consumption, like some places such as Las Vegas, Austin, New Orleans. Drinking in public is ILLEGAL!
WHERE IS THE BREWERY DOG?!
The founder's dog, De De the Weimaraner, has a revered poster upon our wall and he has a revered spot in our hearts for all time! De De occasionally makes appearances wandering around the building when the founders are here, as they own the building (though brewers Aaron and Joel just bought the brewery from the founder in April 2018). Aaron has a Weimaraner puppy by the name of Koda, whom often makes appearances "paw-tending" the bar when Aaron is working! Joel is a bit of an outcast and doesn't have a dog yet because he lives in a small condo with a shared yard and he's not home very often. Someday when he gets a big-boy house he will get a dog and bring it to work! ("I hope that is soon! Come spend a lot of money at our brewery so I can afford to buy a house! Help me get a doggy!" - Joel)
DO YOU DO BOTTLE OR CAN YOUR BEER?
We do not currently bottle or can for retail sales/distribution. We do not have a "Crowler" machine. However, we DO fill growlers and the beauty of the State of Washington's growlers laws is that a "growler" is any empty, sanitary, sealable container, less than 4 gallons in size, provided by either the establishment or the customer and filled at the time of purchase. We DO occasionally have a few empty bottles in the back and some caps and a capper, ask us if we have some available and we can get you a few "growlers" in bottle size. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring some empty, cleaned, label free crown-cap (not screw-cap) bottles to "recycle" and we will fill them for you! If you bring in dirty/labeled ones we will accept them, but may not have time to wash and de-label them during your visit.
IF YOU DON'T DISTRIBUTE BOTTLES OR CANS, WHAT ABOUT KEGS?
We DO distribute kegs for draft service at local restaurants and bars. We currently self-distribute, so our distribution range is generally limited to the Leavenworth/Wenatchee/Stevens Pass area. We hope to do some tap-outs on the West-Side in the future!
DO YOU DISTRIBUTE TO (MY AREA)?
Please see the above answer regarding distribution.
DO YOU DO (RANDOM) FESTIVAL?
We try to hit up several festivals throughout the year! We can't feasibly make it to every one and with our current small staff, small size, and low capital, we cannot afford to do every festival as different ones allow for different repayment schemes and thus currently some of them are just not economically viable for us. But please ask us anyways about a particular one and we will tell you if we have attended or will attend it! And maybe you know a good one we are not yet familiar with and we can research the possibility!
I WOULD LOVE SOME DOGHAUS APPAREL/SOUVENIRS, BECAUSE I LOVE DOGS AND I LOVE BEER! GOT ANYTHING LIKE THAT?
We sure do! We have a some ladies' size t-shirts, some mens' size t-shirts, taster/pint glassware, beachballs, ballcaps, tap handles, glass growlers, and stainless insulated growlers! You can get all these things at our bar, or optionally order online via our Square store at https://squareup.com/store/doghausbrewery. Our online store is still being spruced up and not all items are yet available online, such as the growlers. Though it should be operational for the other items. If you want to order a growler give us a call and we will work it out! The store will be finished up soon to include all items!
I WENT TO YOUR WEBSITE AT WWW.DOGHAUSBREWERY.COM AND THOUGH I THOUGHT THE LANDING PAGE WAS HILARIOUS, I ENDED UP BEING DIRECTED TO FACEBOOK. WHEN WILL YOU HAVE A GROWN-UP PAGE?
UPDATE: If you are reading this particular FAQ then you are aware we have a real website in the works though we are admittedly still puppies on that front. We are working hard in our spare time (what spare time?! we just took over ownership of a brewery.....) to get a big dog website (kennel-site?) created. In the meanwhile we are glad you rate yourself at least an 8 out of 10! (though we assume you are all 11's!) Self-confidence and self-appreciation for everyone! "They're good dogs Brent!" (Google that if you don't know about it)
I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS THAT YOU DIDN'T COVER IN THE FAQ!
If we did not cover a question you have, then please send us a message on Facebook and we will answer back ASAP! We look forward to seeing you in the Doghaus!
